Andre House Phoenix

Last night I volunteered at Andre House.. a "house of hospitality" to serve those in need in Phoenix.  I've never volunteered at soup kitchen like that before and it was a truly amazing experience and makes me so thankful for all I have.  By the looks of some people you would never know they have to come to a place like that to eat.  The food looked amazing too- so much fresh produce and fruit that looked super yummy.. we joked that the food there is better than the food we get at work.  I had my hair braided kind of around my head and one guy told me I look like a princess :) so sweet.  Everyone was so appreciative and thanked us for being there and told us how kind it is that we went to help.  When they first came in there were a couple families with young kids and I looked to the girl next to me and she was crying, which of course made me tear up too!  I have full intentions on returning, ideally once a month if I can.

updates

So, I went on my SECOND eHarmoney date with Matt and it went well!  We went to a really cute restaurant in Phoenix called Hula's.. they have a patio with a firepit and really cute retro Hawaii feel :)  And tomorrow I'm going on another date with someone else!

On Sunday my mom and I wanted to try a new Church.  We decided on a Lutheran Church called Prince of Peace (her choice- I wanted to try a different one).  I wanted to go to a big Church with lots of people there and lots to do there (classes, bible study, retreats) but she assured me this was a "big" church so off we went.  We were kinda running late so we ran in and took our seats right away.  Once we were seated we started to read the bulletin and it looked a little funny- it was talking about "the Ward" and we didn't know what that was and started to think maybe we were there on a special Sunday and this wasn't the normal service.  Then it was time to sing Joy to the World and we sort of eased into everything.  Then it went back to the Ward and we were confused again so my mom asked the lady if she went to that Church and if this service was a typical one.  The lady said it was and it's a 3 hour service and that's what its like for the first hour.  At this point my mom turned back around with a funny look on her face and I told her to ask the lady what church this was, in case we were at the wrong one.  Turns out, we were in a Mormon Church*... whoops! The lady then asked where we wanted to be and if we wanted to leave and we hightailed it out of there and down the street to Prince of Peace so we wouldn't be too late.

After church my mom and I went to breakfast together at True Food Kitchen and did some shopping.  Such a wonderful Sunday with my mom! :)

*Nothing wrong with being Mormon, it's just not what we practice! :)

C25K

So I started the Couch to 5K program today yesterday (scheduling post) and I have to say, I really like it!  I know it's only been one day and all, but I think it's a really good program.  I was thinking day 1 was going to be too easy but it was just right!  I went 2.3 miles and was the perfect amount of tired.  I didn't feel like I was going to collapse but I definitely felt like I had just gone from the couch to 2.3mi haha

Along the way, I passed the cutest house with a "doggie bistro."  It was soooo cute I had to take a picture.  I was trying to get my shadow out of the way but I obviously failed but they had water, treats, and everything.  You can tell good people live there :)

eHarmony date #1

So last night I had my first date with "Matt, 34, Phoenix" and I'd say it went very well!  We met at the dog park after I got off work and hung out there for about an hour and then tried to go to Starbucks for some hot coco but they were already closed.  The only bad part was, I was wearing a (cute) hoodie, leggings, and flip flops but the temp was in the low 50s so my toes were FREEZING!!  I felt like I was walking like an idiot because of my completely frozen toes but I guess it was overlooked because we have date #2 tomorrow night :) I'm not sure what we're doing yet but I will be sure to recap!

woe is me; a personal story

It's been a rough week or so.  My car got broken into and someone broke into my house- while I was in it.  I borrowed a truck from my dad and it stalled in an intersection at 11:30 at night when I was getting off work and NO ONE stopped to help me as I sat helpless and dangerously in oncoming traffic while drunk guys from the club just stared at me.  Our plumbing went out so I couldn't shower for 3 days (thank goodness for dry shampoo).  And I'm withdrawing from years dependent on an SSRI to keep my anxiety at bay.

The last one scares me the most.  With one white little pill I felt like everything would be okay.  But that little pill that I so treasured for so long feels like poison leaving my body.  My heart starts pounding, my vision suddenly escapes me with no notice, and it feels like my brain is moving freely inside my head- but the show must go on.  They talk about chemical imbalances of serotonin and dopamine, reuptake inhibitors, neurotransmitters and synaptic clefts and while I understand the science behind it all, [shit, I studied it for 4 years], I need to face the reality of it all.  And the reality is, taking it was an easy way for me to "face" my anxiety, "relax" my heart, and "conquer" years of unhealthy eating habits.

While this topic is a little serious compared to my other posts, I feel it's something I should put out there, in case anyone else is going through it, or knows someone who is, and to just get it off my chest.  I feel better already! And so I leave you with one of my favorite quotes from Plato:

"Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle."

Boscia Luminizing Black Mask

So I finally got my hands on the Boscia Luminizing Black mask this weekend!  According to Sephora, it's "a groundbreaking, mineral-rich mask that peels off to deliver powerful detoxifying, purifying, and brightening effects." As soon as I got home I had to try this bad boy out.

I applied a pretty thick layer all over my face because I wanted to be sure I was getting the maximum effects my first time. It feels very cool and tingly on the face when you first put it on and then it tightens up, hardens and then it is time to peel it off.  Owww, does it hurt when you peel it off!! This is one serious mask (it was def more painful where the mask was thickest- next time I'll do a thinner layer).  I think it even ripped out some of my fine facial hairs because my skin looked like it had been waxed in some areas and it was pretty red.  HOWEVER, my skin was super smooth after and you could see all the impurites on the mask so it was well worth it!

Next I want to try the GlamGlow mask that Blue Eyed Girl recently raved about... anyone else have any masks they love?

XOXO,
Bunny

moms & eharmony

Well, I guess I should start off by saying I joined eHarmony.  I was a little unsure at first, but I've heard about so many people that have met their boyfriends/fiances on dating sites that I decided to give it a try and I'm glad I did because it's actually pretty fun!

I've learned that moms can be a little pushy about eHarmony also, which I thought was funny because when trying to decided if I should do it or not, here is the motherly advice I received:
Me: I'm not sure if I should do it.  What if I turn out like Sarah from the bible?
Mom: (confused look)
Me: She took things into her own hands instead of waiting for God's plan and he was not happy.
Mom: Well how do you know God doesn't want you to join eHarmony??

Me: It's $120.  Kinda expensive...
Mom: Well if you find someone then that's really a small price to pay and you know you spend way more than that on outfits and clothes you never wear.

Touche, Mom.

And that is how I joined eHarmony.  Last night I was reading about some of the "success stories" and they all seem to start with, "my mom convinced me joined..." haha Mama's want them some grandbabies!

I've already had quite a few matches but the two I'm most into so far are "Matt from Phoenix" and "John from Scottsdale." It's hard to keep all these guys straight though! So far I've eliminated "the douchebag that never wears a shirt," "the short boy that went to school with my friend," and "so-and-so with the bassett hound."  Don't even get me started on bassett hounds.  I'm sorry if you have one but I am NOT a fan.  NEXT!

back from cali

back from cali, and its pretty good to be back! i had a lot of fun but i missed home, my pets, and my family.  i went with someone for what was essentially an extended 3rd date and while he was nice- i could tell it would never work out and i just started getting annoyed with the situation.

thankfully, i'm off today which is nice to give me time to get back into the groove of things but my mom took off for ohio this morning which i'm a little sad that i didn't get to spend more time with her between our trips! i just got off the phone with her from the airport and she said she left me her watch and is going to start doing that because if anything happens to her while she's away she wants me to have it.  really sweet but makes me sad to think about at the same time.  i think i'll wear it today though ;)

i'm also meeting up with aubrey from made you blush today!  she is so sweet so i can't wait to meet with her in person :)

okay, time to get ready for my day- more recap and photos to come later!

put your hands up!

So the other day, I narrowly missed being in a BANK ROBBERY!  I was on my way to the bank when I called my dad and asked him if he wanted to go to lunch with me.  He agreed and we planned on going to a restaurant right next to my bank.  I knew I was going to get there first so I debated on going to the bank before or after lunch and I decided to just wait for my dad at the restaurant and save the bank for after lunch.  A fateful decision my friends!  When I went after lunch I discovered that it had been robbed while I was at lunch!  Crazy timing.

October Favorites Vlog

As I mention in the video, Bridget from Think Classy does these vlogs that I really like to watch so I decided to do one myself!  I get really nervous talking to the camera so I apologize if I seem really awkward.  And for the sticking my tongue out thing- I guess thats kinda weird.  Whatever. Oh, and for my inability to sit still.

Here's a list of the products I talk about and the link to them:
1. Dust it mattifying hair powder
2. Bliss peeling groovy serum
3. Bliss Triple Oxygen + C Energizing Cream (also liked by fellow blogger, Kate)
4. Armani Luminous Silk Foundation
5. Armani Blender Brush
6. Armani Eyes to Kill Mascara
7. Rouge D'Armani Lipstick (#101)
8. Bare Escentuals Brilliant Gold Duo
9. Lush Twilight Bath Bomb **my favorite**

Any favorites you've discovered?  Would it be helpful if I included prices or would that just be tacky?

PS- I uploaded this to youtube first, thus the little comments. And is it just me or do i have major frowny face between my brows?!  I feel like I need botox now.

Vlog...

coming soon! I'm having difficulty uploading it :(

brazilian blowout

So yesterday I finally did the brazilian blowout and it is AMAZING.  My hair was so soft when I left and so much easier to comb out after being washed, it is incredible.  I wish I had a good before and after picture but unfortunately, I just took an after.  I ever wear my hair in its natural state and therefore have no pictures of it and I really didn't feel like showering the night before just so I'd have the before pic.  Sorry!  It's kinda like this persons though:
And now my hair is like this:
I haven't washed it myself yet, so that will be the true test, but I really love it thus far.

Restaurants

So as I promised, here are the restaurants I've tried recently:

1) The Neiman Marcus Cafe- Somehow, I've never eaten at a Neiman Marcus before but it is delicious!  First they bring you a popover with really yummy strawberry butter- YUM!  I had the turkey burger sliders and a chocolate chip cookie and it was really tasty and the setting was so pretty.

2) Totties Asian Fusion 2- Totties is AMAZING.  If you live in AZ, you must go there asap!  I kept hearing that it was good and had been wanting to try it and I finally went last week and have been back already.  I had the Panang curry and highly reccommend it.  I think they do their spicy-ness on a 1-7 scale and the first time I got a 2 because I heard that the 4 is really spicy but I needed a little more kick so the next time I got a 3 and that was good for me.  While I was deciding on the spicyness I was thinking, WWMD, what would Marissa do?

make me pretty

Last week I got a fabulous facial from Bliss spa + microdermabrasion and it was AMAZING.  My friend Sarah that I work with looked so fresh one day and I commented on it and she said she had just gone for the facial/micro and I booked mine the very same day!  It feels amazing and facials at Bliss are such a treat because not only do they do the facial, but they also massage you too.  My skin didn't peel for a while, but now its beginning to so I'm just moisturizing a little more but I am so happy with the results and may make this a monthly treat to myself.

And tomorrow I'm getting my hair cut and I'm doing the Brazilian blowout.  I am SO excited for this!!  My hair straightens fairly easily, it takes me about 10 minutes to blow dry it, but it has quite a bit of wave/curl (the ugly kind) in it so if I can skip this process all together I will be one happy girl! If anyone needs a hair girl in AZ I have the most amazing person ever so let me know :)

I'll be sure to take pictures tomorrow...

Hereafter Movie Review

Last night I saw the movie Hereafter.  IMDB gives it 8.3 stars and the description is "A drama centered on three people -- a blue-collar American, a French journalist and a London school boy -- who are touched by death in different ways." Without giving too much away for those who still want to see it, I thought it was entertaining but a little too predictable.  It does give you things to think about, which I always enjoy in a movie, but I also felt it was a little too long and slow.

My review makes it seem not very good- but I really did enjoy it.  I wouldn't see it again, but I think it's an enjoyable movie.  Have you seen it?

Day 4

My parents.

This is a terrible picture of everyone but the only one I can find on my computer right now.  I really have the best parents.  My mom is the sweetest person on the planet and my dad is quite the funny man.  We are all very close and they are my best friends.

Day 2

Meaning behind my blog name

Well to be honest, I struggled for a long time about what to name my blog and almost every name I wanted was already taken.  I knew I wanted something catchy, with alliteration, and I wanted it to reflect my personality as well.  As we have already established, my real name isn't bunny but bunny is fun, playful, and preppy so I think it suits me well.  I toyed around with the idea of naming my blog 'blissfulbunny' but lets be honest- aside from all my favorite bliss products, my life really isn't all that blissful.  I also liked the idea of barefoot because its casual and makes the preppy bunny a little less stuffy.

Day One
Introduce, recent picture, 15 interesting facts
I'm Bunny.  No, I wasn't born a Bunny but I don't really want to put my real name out there.  Don't worry though, if we become bloggy besties or anything I'll tell you my name, but for now, we're just going to leave it at Bunny!

1. Bunny is actually the name of my first dog, but I like it because its cute and preppy.
2. I've never been pulled over.
3. I always throw up on holidays.  Not every holiday, but if I'm sick w/ the stomach flu or something like that, its on a holiday.
4. I'm actually allergic to cheap jewelery.
5. I once won a Mercedes from the mall but they wouldn't let me take it because I wasn't 21 yet.
6. I've never been on a rollercoaster.  Or a motorcycle.  As you can tell, I'm a huge thrill seeker.
7.  I'm a righty but I have a thing for lefties.  You're instantly cooler if you're a lefty and I'm secretly jealous of you.
8.  Dirty kitchen water and sponges freak me out.
9.  My whole life I thought I had a chicken pox scar.  Turns out its something entirely different and really funny but I'm not posting it.  If you really care, formspring me once I set that up!
10. I'm really into knowing if people have tattoos and what they are and I think that if people mention their tattoo's on a list like this they could include some pictures of them. For the record, I don't have any but might want a small white one. I'll probably never get it though because "it would break my dads heart," and I couldn't do that.
11.  My parents really are my best friends.
12.  I am bat-shit crazy about pugs.
13.  I hate showering (but don't worry, I still do it).
14.  Instead of having a cloth "blankie" when I was little, I had a rabbit fur that I named Donny. I believe this is why I love fur so much. I also think I love fur because I love animals so much. This may seem convoluted to some, but to me it makes perfect sense.
15.  My first tooth was removed by my babysitter who tied one end of a string to my tooth and the other to the doorknob.  True Story.  She was also my parents favorite babysitter.

glitter pumpkins

I'd have to say that fall is, by far, my favorite season. I love everything about it, the weather, the clothing, the pumpkin flavored everything, the food, etc. To me, fall is like an instant uplifter. I'm happier and more creative and this weekend, I made glitter pumpkins.

They were super easy and a great little craft to get you in the season.  I just bought some mini pumpkins, martha stewart glittler glue, some fine glitter, and voila!  Has anyone else done some fall crafting?

hi there

I've had several blogs that I've abandoned for one reason or another. People I personally knew found out about them, I got too much into blog cliques, it became too public, or I was blogging for the wrong reasons.

I'm not going to let that happen to this one. This one is mine, for keeps. I'm not going to blog for others but for ME.
